Deed of manumission freeing "a negroe man named Cato the Elder & a negroe woman called Cloe" as part of the execution of the will of the late John Hudson of Albemarle County. Cato's and Cloe's ages are given as "about sixty five years." The deed is signed by Hudson's executors, Charles Wingfield, Jr. and Jacob Moon and witnessed by Samuel Dyer and William Moon. It was signed as recorded by John Nicholas, clerk of Albemarle court from 1792-1815.

Jacob Moon and William Moon cannot be precisely identified as there were multiple Jacob Moons and William Moons in the same family alive at the time the document was produced.

Text on verso: At a court held for Albemarle County the 6th day of March 1801, this deed of manumission from Charles Wingfield, Jr. and Jacob Moon executors of the last will and testament of John Hudson deceased to a negro man named Cato & Cloe his wife was produced into court and acknowledged by Charles Wingfield, Jun. and proved by the oaths of Saml. Dyer & Wm. Moon as [?] Jacob Moon and ordered to be recorded.
