  • Michèle Montas interviews Minister of Public Works Ernst Laraque about the problems facing the Ministry's road maintenance project six months after the project's launch, as well as broader considerations of public transportation (including the effects of rising gas prices on the cost of transport). The Inter-American Development Bank and other sources of international aid have blocked aid money for the project because parliament has not yet voted on the road maintenance bill, so, according to Laraque, the project is continuing with public funds. Laraque also describes other kinds of international cooperation and the Haitian government's partnership with private businesses to continue road construction and maintenance. Finally, they discuss the situation of Haiti's airports, particularly the Port-au-Prince and Cap-Haïtien airports and also smaller airports in the provinces.
