Atis pent Ralph Allen, Jean-René Jérôme, ak Ronald Mevs pale kesyon penti ayisyen. Yo pale sitou sou konsomatè ameriken ki te afilye avèk Sant Da (Centre d'Art), ki te kreye yon gwo mache pou swadizan "penti nayiv" epi konsa yo fè anpil moun konsidere penti nayiv kòm vrè kreyasyon atistik ki pi "otantik." Men jounen jodiya, mond la kòmanse apresye epi rekonèt varyete kreyasyon atistik ann Ayiti, epi atis ayisyen yo menm kòmanse valorize pwòp travay pa yo. Sepandan, li toujou difisil pou yon atis viv de penti sèlman.
Artists Ralph Allen, Jean-René Jérôme, and Ronald Mevs discuss Haitian painting. They discuss in particular the ways in which American consumers affiliated with the Centre d'Art created a market for so-called "naïve" art and thus rendered naïve art the archetype (or stereotype) of "authentic" Haitian art. However, the world is now beginning to appreciate and recognize the breadth of Haitian art, and Haitian artists themselves are beginning to value their own work. It remains difficult for artists to live off of painting alone.
