- Title:
- Elizabeth LaRocca-Pitts - "Ten Commandments Are Too Many? How About One?" (May 28, 2000)
- Description:
-
Sermon start time: 01:39. Sermon end time: 24:59.
We tend to think of love and commandments as two opposing categories, but all 613 commandments given to Israel in the OT were intended as a blueprint for the community to keep hesed, steadfast love, with one another and God. In the NT, Jesus rolls all of these into a single commandment, "Love one another." The supreme example of this is laying one's life down for another, both literally and metaphorically. (Abstract created by Duke Divinity School staff.)
Key quotation: “This is the Christian life in one phrase…Now and forever I lay down my life at the feet of Christ as proof of my love for Him and for all, my life for my friends.”
