À l’ouverture du procès de Raboteau, le président du tribunal, Napela Saintil, dans une brève allocution, dit qu’il espère que Gonaïves, la ville de l’indépendance d’Haïti, deviendra la ville du droit et de la justice. Le greffier, Raoul Jacques, donne lecture d’une liste d’accusés, parmi eux ceux qui seront jugés par contumace. Le ministère public manifeste son inquiétude concernant le jugement par contumace. Ils parlent de la composition du jury. Divers conseils des accusés, parmi lesquels Luc B. Pierre, Stanley Gaston et Gabrielle Dominique, déclarent que le jugement ne sera pas équitable car chaque accusé n’a pas son propre avocat.
Opening day of the Raboteau trial. Presiding judge Napela Saintil begins with a short speech, in which he expresses hope that Gonaïves, Haiti's city of independence, will now become its city of law and justice. Court clerk Raoul Jacques reads the list of defendants, including those who will be tried in absentia, and the ministère public expresses concern about those who will be tried in absentia. Discussion of the formation of the jury. Various defense attorneys, including Luc B. Pierre, Stanley Gaston, and Gabrielle Domingue, argue about the fairness of having each of the accused defended by a different lawyer.
