Indemnity bond between 27 subscribers and Captain William Longcope and the owners of the barque Hercules, which "has been chartered by the American Colonization Society to convey free persons of color and manumitted slaves from South Carolina and Georgia to the American colony of Liberia in Africa". The bond outlines the conditions under which the subscribers would pay penalties incurred by the captain of the Hercules, which include the number of passengers exceeding the number "by which an act of Congress vessels are permitted to take aboard". The bond also notes that a "larger number than usual of the persons who are [?] wish to go aboard are children". The 27 subscribers are listed at the bottom of bond (page 1).
