Michèle Montas interviews Chavannes Jean-Baptiste, the leader of the Mouvman Peyizan Papay, about the context of the Jean-Rabel massacre. They discuss how to massacre fits into broader movements of peasant farmers defending their rights, how the word "communist" has become a weapon to turn peasants against peasants, and how the Macoutes are reacting because they fear losing political power and land if the CNG is no longer in power. They also discuss divisions within the Catholic Church, between the "ti legliz" and the traditional Church authorities, and how Tèt Ansanm's resistance to food aid contributed to the situation in Jean-Rabel. According to Jean-Baptiste, food aid is a poison.
