According to Jean-Baptiste, Haiti's peasant farmers are disappointed that the promises of the 1987 constitution have not been realized. He cites agrarian reform and land redistribution (particularly redistribution of state-held lands) as demands that have not yet been satisfied, while erosion, deforestation, and abuse by chefs de section continue to threaten peasants' way of life.
