Account of money owed by the late John Chestnut to John Cantey for the hire of enslaved persons, 1823 April 12 :manuscript signed.

Document is written in 2 different hands. At the top of the document, headed "John Chestnut to John Cantey Ser.", is an account of money owed for the "hire of negroes at sundry times" and for "iron purchased in Chas'ton." At the bottom is a statement in a different hand, headed Kershaw District, sworn by Major John Cantey before Thomas P. Evans, the commissioner in equity for Kershaw District, attesting that the outstanding balance given above of $597.92 is accurate.
