Jean Dominique's editorial on the assassination of Serge Villard and Jean-Marie Montès, social class and the color question, the "zenglendo press," the false populism of Duvalierist discourse, and the continued influence of Macoutism on Haitian political life. The Minister of Justice, Pierre Labissière, cited Radio Haiti's coverage of the attack on the Conseil d'État that left Villard and Montès dead. This prompted Duvalierist press outlets like Serge Beaulieu's Radio Liberté to continue to stoke the flames of noirist anti-mûlatre sentiment. Meanwhile, Ben Dupuy's supposedly Marxist Assemblée Populaire Nationale dismissed Villard as a "bourgeois" and said his death was of no concern to them. Jean Dominique traces the history of political movements based on skin color or social class (for example, the Parti Socialiste Populaire focused on class struggle while the Parti Communiste Haïtien focused on the struggles of the Black majority). But Duvalierist noirist rhetoric not truly populist - it is merely a pretense and a pretext for consolidating the power of the Duvalierist oligarchy.
