Summary: Consists of two life insurance policies (nos. 6086-6087) issued by the North-Carolina Mutual Life Insurance Company (Raleigh, North Carolina) for Nancy and Margaret, two women enslaved by E. L. McNair. Nancy was insured at the annual rate of $14.28; she was insured "in the amount of seven hundred dollars, for the term of five years". Margaret was insured at the annual rate of $17.15; she was insured "in the amount of seven hundred dollars, for the term of five years". The versos of both policies have manuscript notes transferring the "right-title + interest in this policy of insurance to James W. Blackeney and Peter L. McIntyre this the twenty second day of Septembr 1859". The verso are signed by E.L. McNair and witnessed by M.H.H. Duvall. R.H. Bartt, secretary, also confirms the transfer.
