Redaktè an chèf Radyo Ayiti Pierre Emmanuel, Hérold Jean-François ki jounalis Radyo Ibo ak responsab ANMH, ak Fritzson Orius ki jounalis Radyo Ayiti pale sou kesyon represyon jounalis ak vyolans sou jounalis. Yo menase, atake, ak touye anpil jounalis nan lane 2001: soti nan menas moun JPP yo René Civil ak Paul Raymond te fè sou Liliane Pierre-Paul ak Max Chauvet, pase nan atanta sou jounalis Radyo Ayiti Fritzson Orius ak Jean-Robert Delciné nan Delmas ak nan Site Solèy, pase nan britalite lapolis fè sou jounalis Bèlans ak Ansdeno, pase nan menas kont radyo kominotè, rive nan asasina notwa Brignol Lindor anba kout manchèt manm Dòmi Nan Bwa nan Ti Gwav.
Editor-in-chief of Radio Haiti Pierre Emmanuel, Hérold Jean-François of Radio Ibo and ANMH, and Fritzson Orius of Radio Haiti discuss repression of and violence against journalists. Journalists were threatened, attacked, and killed throughout Haiti in 2001, from JPP's René Civil and Paul Raymond threatening Liliane Pierre-Paul and Max Chauvet, to attacks against Radio Haiti journalists Orius and Jean-Robert Delciné in Delmas and Cité Soleil, to police brutality against journalists in Belle-Anse and Anse d'Hainault, to threats against community radio stations, to the infamous murder of Brignol Lindor by Dòmi Nan Bwa in Petit-Goâve. Whenever journalists are believed to represent politics that differ from those in power -- or whenever journalists are reporting on the misdeeds of those in power -- they are in danger, particularly when those in power are Lavalas. Violence against journalists is a symptom of the turbulent political moment in the country and the deep enmity between Fanmi Lavalas and Convergence Démocratique. Pierre Emmanuel explains that freedom of the press is tied to broader social conditions in the country. He highlights the differences between the Lavalas party that was elected in 1990 and the Lavalas party that returned in 1994, and the evolution of the Haitian press (and Lavalas's relationship with the press) since 1990. There is no official policy of press repression in Haiti, but there is also no policy to protect journalists. They also compare the current state of violence against journalists to previous periods of press repression in Haiti, for example under Duvalier and during the coup d'état.
