Jean Dominique entèvyouve Pè Max Dominique sou kriz valè k ap ravaje sosyete ayisyen. Dapre Max Dominique, li ale pi lwen pase yon kriz moral: se yon kriz idantite li ye. Sa vin ankò pi klè aprè retou lòd konstitisyonèl -- retou Jean-Bertrand Aristide aprè koudeta a -- tandiske mouvman Lavalas la ap degrade, epi ansyen militan montre se idòl yo ye ki ap anbrase filozofi "degaje pa peche," "jan l tonbe l tonbe" ak "jan l pase l pase," epi "vòlè leta pa vòlè." Sejousi, Lavalas ap eseye rekonsilye l avèk gwo oligak ak poutchis yo. Lidè ki te monte sou pouvwa nan preche teyoloji liberasyon gentan revele yo t ap sèvi avèk relijyon pou yo reyalize fen politik; dapre Max Dominique, yo dwe "kite Bondye jwe wòl Bondye" pito. Li souliye kapasite pwezi pou rezistans, soti nan Arthur Rimbaud nan Lafrans rive nan powèt ayisyen tankou Davertige ki te reziste rejim Duvalier a. Max Dominique dekri yon "pilsyon lanmò" nan sosyete ayisyen an, soti nan lanmò enjis Desalin rive jounen jodiya. Premye vyolans nan istwa ayisyen se te yon vyolans ki te fè sans -- revolisyon ayisyen pou ranvèse epi koupe tèt esklavajis franse yo -- men kounye a pilsyon lanmò sila a vin afekte tout sektè nan sosyete a, tout tan. Kòm pwofesè anplis de pè (Max Dominique te direktè Petit Séminaire Collège Saint-Martial), li dekri tou jan kriz sa a afekte jèn yo.
Jean Dominique interviews Father Max Dominique about the crisis of moral values afflicting Haitian society. According to Max Dominique, this is more than a crisis of values: it is an identity crisis. This is especially apparent after the return of constitutional order -- the return of Jean-Bertrand Aristide after the coup d'état -- as the Lavalas movement degrades, and once-activists reveal themselves to be false idols who embrace the philosophy of "degaje pa peche" ("getting by isn't a sin," which refers to corruption), "jan l tonbe l tonbe" and "jan l pase l pase" (whatever happens, happens") and "vòlè leta pa vòlè" ("stealing from the state isn't stealing"). Lavalas is now attempting to reconcile with oligarchs and coup leaders. Leaders who rose to power preaching liberation theology have revealed themselves to have been using religion for political ends; according to Max Dominique, they should instead "let God be God." He points to the power of poetry for resistance, from Arthur Rimbaud in France to Haitian poets like Davertige who resisted the Duvalier dictatorship. Max Dominique describes an "impulse toward death" ("pilsyon lanmò") in Haitian society, stemming from the injustice of Dessalines' death onward. The first moment of violence in Haitian society -- the Haitian Revolution and the overthrow and murder of French enslavers -- made sense, but now this impulse toward death has become ubiquitous and constant. As an educator as well as a priest (Max Dominique was the director of the Petit Séminaire Collège Saint-Martial), he also describes the ways this crisis affects young people.
