- Sermon, Father Hugo Triest (1)
- Speaker:
- Triest, Hugo
- Date:
- April 25, 1985
- Description:
-
Pandan yon sèmon pou komemore Fèt Sen Mak (25 avril), Pè Hugo Triest fè konparezon ant Ayiti jounen jodiya ak epòk esklavaj lakoloni. Li pale sou istwa revolisyonè Ayiti a -- lè yo mete blan franse deyò an 1804 epi lè yo mete blan ameriken deyò an 1934 -- paske de nasyon sa yo te anvi kenbe Ayiti nan esklavaj fizik, mantal, epi spirityèl.
In a sermon marking the Fête de St. Marc the evangelist (April 25), Father Hugo Triest likens Haiti’s current situation to slavery. He invokes Haiti’s revolutionary history. discussing the expulsion of French colonialism in 1804, and of American occupiers in 1934, both of whom wanted to keep Haitians in physical, mental, and spiritual bondage. Triest, who also served as the director of Radio Soleil at the time, argues that Haiti remains enslaved, this time by its own people, its government. He insists that religion can provide the tools necessary to combat this enslavement.
