Binding: Byzantine binding of red goatskin over thick wooden boards with a silver gilt covering on the upper cover, worked in repoussé from the rear, in part with dies, with various figures including the Crucifixion, and a long colophon on the paper leaves at the end recording that in 1590 the manuscript was the property of the Metropolitan Church of St. Stephen in the Province of Pisidia, Asia Minor. On the decorated plaque are four impressions of a Christos or God the Father figure, two of "saintly supporting figures" a single impression at top of a small "Christ in Majesty, " and a very large Crucifixion with supporting figures. The lower left corner of the plaque is missing, partly affecting one of the impressions of the "Christos, " and there are small losses at top and near the stud attachment. The plaque measures 245 x 160 mm.
