Konpè Filo ak Jacques Price fè yon repòtaj sou ayisyen k ap vwayaje lanmè pou chèche lavi lòt bò dlo (swadizan «boat-people») soti nan fawès peyi a. Gen moun ki fè wanga pou asire ke vwayaj la fèt an sekirite, oubyen pou yo jwenn travay lè yo rive.
Konpè Filo and Jacques Price report on seafaring migrants (“boat people”) from far northwest Haiti who flee Haiti looking for a better life abroad. Poverty, political repression, lack of employment, and land problems in northwest Haiti have forced them to flee. Hunger forces people to eat “yanm dala” -- toxic and deadly bitter cassava. The journalists interview people about the voyage itself, in which the owners of “canter” boats make money off desperate people who take the perilous, often horrific voyage. Passengers describe the dangerous conditions in the Windward Passage between Haiti and Cuba. Some people do Vodou ceremonies to ensure the safety of the voyage, or to find employment once they arrive.
