Deed of gift for 5 enslaved persons, "Phill a negro man, Lucky a young negro woman, Nanny a young negro woman, Allan a young negro boy, and Harry a small negro boy." John Hamilton, "in consideration of the affection" he holds for Mrs. Patsy Brickell and her three children as well as "the sum of five shillings to me in hand paid by Major John Hinton" of Wake County, N.C., gifts 5 enslaved persons in trust to Mrs. Brickell and appoints John Hinton as trustee. After her death the trust is revoked and ownership passes to her children Alexander James McKethan, Mary Hinton McKethan, and John Hamilton McKethan. Hamilton states that Phill, Lucky, Nanny, Allan, and Harry were purchased by him December 15, 1808 in Wake County from the estate of Dugald McKethan, Patsy Brickell's late first husband. The document was produced in Norfolk, Virginia, in 1808 and executed and registered in Wake County, North Carolina, in 1809.
