Therefore, let us read and mark in holy scripture | 37:24 | |
the tale of the loving purposes of God. | 37:29 | |
From the first days of our disobedience | 37:33 | |
unto the glorious redemption brought | 37:37 | |
to us by this holy child. | 37:39 | |
Let us pray. | 37:44 | |
Let us pray for the needs of the whole world. | 37:50 | |
For peace on Earth and goodwill among all His people. | 37:54 | |
For unity within the church and across this globe. | 38:01 | |
And especially in our own community here. | 38:06 | |
And because this would rejoice His heart, | 38:11 | |
let us remember in His name, | 38:14 | |
the poor and helpless. | 38:17 | |
The cold, the hungry | 38:20 | |
and the oppressed. | 38:23 | |
The sick and them that mourn. | 38:25 | |
The lonely and the unloved. | 38:29 | |
The aged and the little children. | 38:31 | |
All those who know not the Lord Jesus | 38:34 | |
or who love Him not, | 38:38 | |
or who by sin have grieved his heart of love. | 38:40 | |
Lastly on this night, | 38:45 | |
let us remember before God | 38:48 | |
all those who rejoice with us | 38:50 | |
but upon another shore and in a greater light. | 38:53 | |
That multitude which no one can number, | 38:58 | |
whose hope was in the Word made flesh. | 39:02 | |
And with whom in the Lord Jesus, | 39:05 | |

Thou has broken as on the day of Midian. | 45:54 | |

"Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. | 2:29 | |
"And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, | 2:33 | |
"and you shall call his name Jesus. | 2:40 | |
"He will be great | 2:43 | |
"and will be called the Son of the Most High. | 2:45 | |
"And the Lord God will give to him | 2:48 | |
"the throne of his father David, | 2:49 | |
"and he will reign over the house of Jacob forever, | 2:52 | |
"and of his kingdom, there will be no end." | 2:55 | |
And Mary said to the angel, | 3:00 | |
"How can this be since I have no husband?" | 3:02 | |
And the angel said to her, | 3:05 | |
"The Holy Spirit will come upon you, | 3:07 | |
"and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. | 3:09 | |
"Therefore the child to be born | 3:13 | |
"will be called holy, the Son of God. | 3:15 | |
"And behold, your kinswoman Elizabeth | 3:19 | |
"in her old age has also conceived a son, | 3:21 | |
"and this is the sixth month with her who was called barren. | 3:24 | |
"For with God, nothing will be impossible." | 3:29 | |
And Mary said, "Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord. | 3:33 | |

"Blessed are you among women, | 8:40 | |
"and blessed is the fruit of your womb! | 8:43 | |
"And why is this granted me, | 8:46 | |
"that the mother of my Lord should come to me? | 8:49 | |
"For behold, when the voice of your greeting | 8:52 | |
"came to my ears, | 8:56 | |
"the babe in my womb leaped for joy. | 8:58 | |
"And blessed is she who believed | 9:01 | |
"that there would be a fulfillment | 9:03 | |
"of what was spoken to her from the Lord." | 9:06 | |
And Mary said, "My soul magnifies the Lord, | 9:09 | |
"and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior, | 9:14 | |
"for he has regarded the low estate of his handmaiden. | 9:18 | |
"For behold, henceforth all generations | 9:22 | |
"will call me blessed. | 9:26 | |
"For he who is mighty has done great things for me, | 9:28 | |
"and holy is his name. | 9:32 | |
"And his mercy is on those who fear him | 9:34 | |
"from generation to generation. | 9:37 | |
"He has shown strength with his arm. | 9:40 | |
"He has scattered the proud | 9:43 | |
"in the imagination of their hearts. | 9:45 | |
"He has put down the mighty from their thrones | 9:48 | |
"and exalted those of low degree. | 9:51 | |
"He has filled the hunger with good things, | 9:54 | |
"and the rich he has sent empty away. | 9:57 | |

"in remembrance of his mercy, | 10:03 | |
"as he spoke to our fathers, | 10:06 | |
"to Abraham and to his posterity forever." | 10:08 | |

being a just man and unwilling to put her to shame, | 12:46 | |
resolved to divorce her quietly. | 12:51 | |

All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had spoken | 13:24 | |

"Behold, a virgin shall conceive and bear a son, | 13:31 | |
"and his name shall be called Immanuel," | 13:35 | |
which means God is with us. | 13:39 | |
When Joseph woke from sleep, | 13:42 | |
he did as the angel of the Lord commanded him. | 13:44 | |
He took his wife, | 13:48 | |
but knew her not until she had borne a son. | 13:50 | |
And he called his name Jesus. | 13:54 | |

And they went with haste and found Mary and Joseph | 17:54 | |

"'for from you shall come a ruler | 23:39 | |
"'who will govern my people Israel.'" | 23:41 | |
And then Herod summoned the wise men secretly | 23:45 | |
and ascertained from them what time the star appeared. | 23:49 | |
And he sent them to Bethlehem, saying, | 23:53 | |
"Go and search diligently for the child, | 23:57 | |
"and when you have found him, bring me word, | 24:01 | |
"that I too may come and worship him." | 24:04 | |
When they had heard the king, they went their way. | 24:09 | |
And lo, the star which they had seen in the east | 24:12 | |
went before them | 24:15 | |
till it came to rest over the place where the child was. | 24:17 | |
When they saw the star, they rejoiced exceedingly | 24:21 | |

Such a miracle came from | 40:24 | |
such a seemingly ordinary event and scene. | 40:27 | |
Could it be that God will choose to come to us, | 40:34 | |
all of us ordinary people, | 40:40 | |
with the same kind of mystery and surprise? | 40:44 | |
Let us look with hopeful eyes and open hearts | 40:52 | |
