Carol Joseph and Hermione Seïde of the Office National de Migration (ONM) discuss migration from and within Haiti. Topics include repatriations from the US, Dominican Republic, and Jamaica (among other countries); a new trend of migrants taking to the sea from Haiti's southern coast (including 213 people missing after leaving Île-à-Vache; different waves of migration from Haiti (from Haitian cane cutters in Cuba during the US occupation to political exiles under Duvalier to unauthorized immigration in recent years); the "feminization" of migration; rural-to-urban migration within Haiti; and the Haitian government's difficulty in creating and enforcing migration policy. Carol Joseph et Hermione Seïde, de l’Office national pour la migration (ONM) parlent de la migration, que ce soit vers l’étranger ou à l’intérieur du pays. Parmi les sujets abordés : les rapatriements d’Haitiens venant des États-Unis, de la République Dominicaine, de la Jamaique ou d’autres pays; une nouvelle vague d’Haitiens, originaires du Sud, partis en bateau comme boat people, parmi eux 213 personnes ont disparu après avoir quitté l’Ile à Vache; différentes vagues de migration ont eu lieu dans l’histoire d’Haïti : les coupeurs de canne à Cuba pendant l’occupation américaine, les exilés politiques sous Duvalier, la migration clandestine d’aujourd’hui; la féminisation de la migration; les populations qui abandonnent les régions rurales pour les villes; et enfin les difficultés de l’état haïtien à créer et renforcer une politique migratoire.
