- Title:
- Shelly Wilson Wall - "Unremarkability" (March 20, 1988)
- Description:
-
Sermon start time: (Part 1) 16:42. Sermon end time: (Part 1) 32:17.
Drawing parallels between the Greeks elegant and logically-minded society and American morality and might, Shelly Wilson Wall says Jesus' illogical love and commandments run counter to Ancient Greek/Modern-day American notions of power, and instead in this Lenten season we see a Jesus who is unremarkable to behold but illogically loving beyond reason; though there is no explicit call to renounce wealth, Wall indicts any notion that God approves of the comfort and prestige of the academy and the fancy church in which this sermon is being preached.
