City of London Election!! A song for the times.

Song of political bias written in time of the July 1852 general election in England. Part of the lyrics of the song, like the ones that mentions the Jews Bill, give a hint that the person who the song is referring to is Lord John Russell. John Russell, 1st Earl Russell (1792-1878), known as Lord John Russell before 1861, was a leading Whig and Liberal politician who served as Prime Minister on two occasions during the mid-19th century. Charles Dickens dedicated the novel, A Tale of Two Cities, to him, “In remembrance of many public services and private kindnesses.”
