Abstract:
The Poe Studies Association is a non-profit educational organization of college teachers and other interested persons. It was created to exchange information and ideas relating to Edgar Allen Poe biography and criticism both in the U.S. and abroad. Collection contains such items as the Association by-laws, correspondence, minutes, publications, and an address by Maureen Cobb Mabbott. Correspondence is divided into alphabetical and chronological files whose items discuss the workings of the Association, program arrangements, publications, and research ideas. There are also conference and other administrative files.

Background

Scope and content:

The Poe Studies Association (PSA) records contain such items as the Association by-laws, correspondence, minutes, publications, and an address by Maureen Cobb Mabbott. Correspondence is divided into alphabetical and chronological files whose items discuss the workings of the Association, program arrangements, publications, and research ideas. There are also conference and other administrative files, including files covering the presidencies of Liliane Weissberg (1992-95) and J. Gerald Kennedy (1996-1999). Conference files include international Poe conferences as well as the 1988 Arthur Gordon Pym conference. Many of the administrative and conference files document Richard Kopley's active membership in the PSA, his work to plan and execute conferences, and his continued contributions to Poe scholarship.

The Poe Studies Association is a non-profit educational organization of college teachers and other interested persons. It was created to exchange information and ideas relating to Edgar Allen Poe biography and criticism both in the U.S. and abroad. The Association publishes a newsletter and meets in conjunction with Modern Language Association meetings. Honorary members have included Jay B. Hubbell and Richard Wilbur.

Acquisition information:
The Poe Studies Association Records were received by the David M. Rubenstein Rare Book Manuscript Library as a gift in 1984, 1986, 1996, 1998, and 2016, and as gifts from Benjamin Franklin Fisher in 2008; from J. Gerald Kennedy in 2021; from Richard Kopley in 2016, 2019, and 2023.

The collection is part of the Jay B. Hubbell Center for American Literary Historiography.
